FAQ

So you have some questions? We have some answers!

What if I want to sponsor the team?

The answer is please! And yes! We are non-profit, and every penny earned goes to the athletes. Team fees we collect from the athletes don’t come close to funding everything we do. We depend on incredible sponsors from our community! See our sponsors page for more information.

Are there risks?

We start every season with bike handling skills and keep teaching throughout the season

  • Certain risky behaviors are discouraged and against team & league rules.
  • Everyone is required to wear a helmet and ride in control at all times.
  • Even with our best efforts, crashes and injuries do sometimes occur. All level 2 & 3 coaches are required to be First Aid certified just in case.

What if I’m not fast or brand new to mountain biking?

Everyone of all levels are welcome!

Our practices are divided into groups based on speed and ability. You’ll be riding with friends of similar skills and speed!

The races are divided by girls and boys and by ability. So don’t worry, beginning 7th graders will never race against crazy fast 8th graders!

What equipment do I need to ride with the team?

All riders must come to every practice with a mountain bike, helmet, spare tube, inflation device, and water bottle. You’ll probably also want a multi tool, full fingered gloves, bike shorts with chamois, and sunglasses

What events should I expect throughout the season?

  • Team BBQ – We will review the rules of the team and get to know each other
  • Bike Check – You must get a (free!) bike safety check at Hanger 15 before participating in skills nights and practices
  • Skills Nights – You must attend at least one, they will be in a parking lots and teach basic bike handling skills
  • Time Trial – This will determine your ride group. It’s not a big deal, no one is ever “benched” on our team! We use the results to split athletes into groups of 8-10 riders with similar abilities.
  • Practices – 2 x a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays (6:30 am in the summer, 6:30 pm in the fall)
  • Dig Days – Community service projects (trail work!)
  • Races – You only have 3, commit now!
  • End of Season Party – One last hoorah!

Did you say races? When and where?

8/27/2022 – Eagle Mountain
9/10/2022 – Cedar City
9/24/2022 – Soldier Hollow

Do I have to race?

Because so many kids want to join our team, we now have to *limit team size.* We don’t do this by skill, but we want kids that are committed to attending practice and to racing! But don’t worry … after attending practice and gaining awesome skills on the trails, you’ll be begging to race!

What are parents committing to when they sign-up?

Every person on our team is 100% volunteer – including the coaches. We need MANY people to keep our large team running! Parents can volunteer in many ways (Race Day help with food, set-up, take-down, handing out race plates, etc. Host or help at summer/End-of-year parties. And lots of other opportunities throughout the season.)

Parents can also volunteer as Ride Leaders! (Get a workout AND volunteer at the same time!) See the ride leading section of our website for tons of information.

What if I can’t afford the team?

We are committed to making our program accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Please understand scholarship funds are extremely limited, but we will do our best to help those that need assistance. See the scholarships page for more information.

I’m the first one in my family to ever be on the mountain biking team. I really want to make it on the team, but I heard it’s really hard to get on! What can I do to improve my chances?

Our team heavily relies on parent volunteers. If you want to increase your chances of getting a spot on team, have your parents reach out to the coaches to see if a spot on the volunteer committee fits their skills, time and talents. Better yet, if they mountain bike themselves, have them volunteer to be a ride leader! They can show they are committed (and increase your chances) by completing all the required training to be level 1 certified on pitzone prior to the end of the pre-registration period. Have them register HERE if they want to be a ride leader!
