WHEN WE PRACTICE

May: We begin our season with skills sessions in the parking lot.  This gives us the knowledge and skills to begin riding safely on the trails.  Skills are required for beginners and advanced riders — everyone can always find ways to improve.

June – mid-August: During the summer, we practice T/TH 6:30-8am.

mid-August – September: When school is in session we practice T/TH 6:30-8pm

WHAT EACH RIDER NEEDS

All riders must come to every practice with a mountain bike, helmet, spare tube, inflation device, and water bottle.  You’ll probably also want a multi tool, full fingered gloves, bike shorts with chamois, and sunglasses.

As you can imagine, there is a big range in mountain bikes and their prices. Please don’t head to your nearest department store and buy a shiny new bike, it probably won’t meet the demanding needs of the trails. The staff at Hanger 15 can offer great suggestions (NICA discount information will be available at the sign-up meeting) or you can talk to one of the coaches for suggestions.

HOW OUR PRACTICES ARE RUN

Each practice the athletes ride in ability-based groups of 8 or so riders, with two trained adult ride leaders. All practices take place on the trails in Corner Canyon. We work on both endurance and skills while we ride the trails. And we always try and have FUN, make new friends, and work hard!
